China Uses Facebook Ads to Lie About Uyghur Muslim Genocide
The Chinese Communist Party is posting Facebook ads depicting happy Uyghur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang region, despite the reality of internment, forced labor, and genocide against the ethnic minority group.
The ads include children claiming their lives are “improving” and the United States is trying to take down the Chinese government.
While many Chinese propaganda ads are eventually taken down for mislabeling of content, Facebook typically shows them to hundreds of thousands of viewers before they are flagged for removal. And as quickly as one ad is gone, another ad pops up.
